Dear CalMatters reader,

Welcome to the second edition of California in Pictures – a monthly visual showcase of images from across the state that highlights the ways in which photographs can illuminate the different identities one person or community can hold.

This month we are featuring “We Belong,” an ongoing visual series published by India Currents. Photojournalist Sree Sripathy created the series to explore different experiences of South Asian identity in the Bay Area, explaining, “It is easy to stereotype, to look at the surface of a culture, to the things that are the most colorful and obvious. I wanted to dig a little deeper beyond standard tropes.”

Thank you for joining us on this journey as we share photographs that help us explore California with depth.

Sincerely,

Coburn Dukehart
