Dear CalMatters reader,

In each edition of California in Pictures we continue to build an ongoing visual journey across the state. This month we share photographs that document the aftermath of tragedy and moments of grief and remembrance, the everyday objects we carry with us, and scenes filled with connection and community. The images move through community vigils, working farms and vineyards, as well as the shifting patterns of California's landscape. They not only offer an important record of current events, but also a fuller sense of place and of the people who shape it.

We are excited for the next year of California in Pictures, including sharing more photography from our readers. If you have photography from your community, submit it here and help us grow this collective portrait of our state, one image at a time.

Sincerely,

Jenny Stratton
