Ten years ago, with a desire to move California forward, the three of us came together to create CalMatters. Our vision was to build a statewide newsroom to deliver nonpartisan, accountability-driven journalism about decisions made in the Capitol and make California’s complex policies and politics accessible to all.

What began as an ambitious goal remains the guiding principle — the North Star — of our newsroom.

To fulfill our original mission, CalMatters remains committed to:

• Publish news that rises above partisan politics and provides accurate, in-depth analysis of critical issues in California.

• Give people the power to hold all people and institutions in power accountable for their actions and inactions.

• Distribute this journalism freely on our platforms, but also through more than 250 media partners across the state.
