Dear CalMatters reader,

Painting, music classes and subsidized meals — senior centers provide vital resources and spaces for friendship, romance and community for adults over 50. Earlier this year CalMatters and CatchLight published a visual survey of five senior centers in Southern California revealing economic disparities, a wide range of resources and offerings, and the invaluable role these centers play as hubs for gathering, connection and joy.

WATCH: How aging Californians are fighting isolation

In this PBS SoCal video segment, photojournalist Isadora Kosofsky provides an overview of the project and learnings, underscoring the importance of documenting aging adults and care with depth,  dignity and nuance.

Finally, if you live in the Los Angeles area,  please join us on Aug. 1st for the debut of a public exhibition of the project at the Culver City Senior Center. More details about the free event can be found here.
