Journalism Educator Fellowship with CalMatters 2024

California Teachers:
Want to launch a news program at school?
New to teaching journalism?
We’re here to help.

CalMatters deeply values the dedication and impact of middle and high school journalism advisers and those aspiring to teach journalism. We recognize your commitment to shaping the next generation of journalists and want to support your efforts to inspire and educate!

We're excited to invite another 20 educators to join the second cohort of CalMatters’ Journalism Educator Fellowship, an initiative designed to enhance journalistic education in California through mentorship and professional development.

Fellows are matched with experienced mentors, facilitating the enhancement of student-led journalism programs, curriculum development, and the advancement of teaching skills. Additionally, the program includes personalized mentorship, tailored to support educators hoping to launch a program or in their first years of journalism advising. Whether you teach English, Social Studies, the school yearbook, newspaper, social media, podcast, broadcast or other courses, we look forward to supporting you!

The fellowship kicks off with an in-person summer program in our Sacramento newsroom, followed by a semester or more of fellowship programming, largely virtual, with occasional in-person and on-site visits. See the details and application below.

Priority deadline to apply for the fellowship:

Fri., May 31, 2024 at 11:59 p.m.
